Who/what are your influences?

It's really all accross the board. There's a list here on my space I think but it's too many to even start to get into. Recently we've all been listening to our old Queen and Zeppelin records.

Is there a specific meaning behind the band's name? if so, can you expand on it?

No, no meaning really. We were nineteen when we named ourselves after these signs you can find everywhere in Baltimore. There's a huge one that's sadly getting knocked down soon. I always suspected it also subconciously had something to do with Mike's love of the band Fishbone at the time. People say a name can make or break you...hmmm...

In listening to your music, each album has a distinct feel and style to it. do you consciously set out to for a specific "sound" each time? or, is it more of a natural progression?

It's all too natural. It seems like a lot of bands make their best work and then try to force themselves to recreate that somehow the rest of their carreers. They always feel they have to reference whatever they're known for in everything they do. We do whatever we're inspired to do. That may not be the nicest thing to do to our audience when they grow attached to certain older material but it's honest and I think it keeps our music sounding alive.

Do you have a specific process for writing your songs? or is it more experimental?

We do it every way there is to do it. some times someone will have an almost finished idea that we just add too and other times it just comes from fooling around at practice which may be what you mean by experimental. And then everything in between. In recent years I would say that there has been more individual song writing then there used to be...

What can we expect to see/hear from lake trout in the future?

We have a crop of new material that's more inspired from listening to our old classic (aforementioned) records. we're not going for the kitchy retro classic rock thing by any means but I do think we'll be tracking directly to analog like the old days and going a little more over the top with some of the vocal and instrumental aspects of the songs. The term I keep hearing from other band members is "bigger and no holds barred" So whatever that is...
